CLIENT BRIEF
We were approached by a local architect to design a bespoke kitchen for their client in St Leonards, Exeter, one that would reflect a modern Scandinavian aesthetic, clean and minimal in feel, while still working hard behind the scenes to support the rhythm of everyday family life. The client wanted a space that felt warm and natural, yet considered and contemporary at the same time, and from those first conversations it was clear that our dedication to handcrafted excellence would help shape this design around the client's individual tastes and the architectural character of their unique Exeter home.
DESIGN APPROACH
Our response was a kitchen that balances bold simplicity with refined, artisan design, bringing together Scandinavian influence and modern craftsmanship in a way that lets natural textures do most of the talking.
The main cabinetry run is wrapped in hand-selected, rough sawn veneer, with the grain carefully matched from floor to ceiling so that the doors read as one continuous, flowing surface rather than a series of separate panels. A full-length bespoke oak handle runs across the units, anchoring the whole design with a strong Scandinavian character and giving the space its own distinctive rhythm.
Natural oak, clean lines and everything hidden until you need it, from the breakfast bar to the larder and the appliances, sum up the spirit of the room, and while it looks simple at first glance, there is a great deal of thought and intention behind every design choice, all of it built for modern living, where cooking, hosting and everyday life all happen comfortably in the same space.
“Tom is an excellent carpenter. He built a wonderful bookcase for me plus additional floating shelves. He thought long and hard about what to do and what to use to best effect, which I appreciated enormously. I wholeheartedly recommend him.”

BESPOKE FEATURES
Hidden Breakfast Bar: Concealed behind pivot pocket doors, offering a practical yet elegant solution that comes into its own during busy morning routines.
Integrated Luxury Appliances: Including a fridge-freezer and two Neff hide-and-slide ovens, all incorporated seamlessly with the cabinetry.
Handcrafted Bespoke Larder: A full-height pull-out larder, hidden behind the flow of handleless cabinetry, providing extra storage to keep the space feeling clean and organised.
Secret Door: Discreetly built into the run of units, leading through to a back kitchen, so the main space stays calm and uncluttered.
ISLAND & SINK RUN
The island itself keeps things grounded and hard-working, constructed using Egger Perfect Sense boards, chosen for their anti-fingerprint and anti-scratch properties, so the surfaces stay looking their best even with daily use. The same full-length oak handles continue across this section, carrying the rhythm of the main run through to the island for a sense of visual consistency throughout the room, and although the run appears to be a bank of drawers, we crafted matching door fronts to maintain the illusion and keep the lines uninterrupted.
BESPOKE BREAKFAST BAR & LARDER
Behind the clean lines of the main run sit all of the everyday essentials, tucked neatly away, from the hidden breakfast bar and larder through to the integrated appliances and even the concealed door leading to the back kitchen, so that nothing disturbs the simplicity of the room.
The solid oak breakfast bar finishes the island design, naturally becoming the place to perch, prep, or gather with a glass of wine at the end of the day.
STANDOUT DETAILS
Gas Hob with Pop-Up Extractor: Sleek, space-saving, and specifically positioned centrally on the island for effortless everyday cooking.
Quartz Worktop & Solid Oak Breakfast Bar: Durable surfaces paired with natural warmth, well suited to cooking and entertaining alike.
Built-In Wine Fridge: Seamlessly integrated into the island, maintaining the sleek, uninterrupted aesthetic and easily accessible for whenever a chilled drink is needed.
Handcrafted Secret Door: Discreetly built into the main run of cabinetry to lead through to the back kitchen, ensuring the main space remains clean and uncluttered.
Full-Length Bespoke Oak Handle: Running across the entire main cabinetry run, anchoring the kitchen’s Scandinavian character and establishing a rhythmic visual flow.
Grain-Matched Rough-Sawn Veneer: Hand-selected grain matched rough-sawn veneer from floor to ceiling, allowing the doors to read as one continuous, flowing surface.
Anti-Fingerprint "Perfect Sense" Island Surfaces: Constructed with specialised boards that resist fingerprints and scratches, keeping the island’s pristine finish despite high daily use.

Yes, a bespoke kitchen can significantly add value to your home.
While the initial investment may be higher than a standard, off-the-shelf kitchen, a bespoke kitchen can offer a substantial return on investment.
Here’s why:
Unique Selling Point: A bespoke kitchen can make your home stand out in the property market. Its unique design and high-quality materials can attract potential buyers.
Increased Property Value: A well-designed, high-quality kitchen is often considered a major selling point. It can significantly increase the overall value of your home.
Improved Quality of Life: A bespoke kitchen tailored to your specific needs and preferences can enhance your daily life. Its superior functionality and aesthetics can make your home more enjoyable.
Long-Term Investment: High-quality materials and expert craftsmanship ensure that a bespoke kitchen will last for many years, making it a worthwhile investment.
However, it’s important to note that the value added by a bespoke kitchen can vary depending on factors such as location, local market trends, and the specific design and materials used.
Consulting with an estate agent or property expert can provide a more accurate assessment of the potential return on investment.
